My work seeks to communicate experiential subject matter (i.e. physical sensation, emotional sensation, intuition) through images and sound. The process begins with internal investigation - I use creative work to clarify what is being felt or experienced, it's origin, how it is manifesting in my body, and how it is driving behavior.
I have been drawn to themes regarding my experience as a woman, my maturing sense of gender identity and sexuality. There is an emerging focus on shame - where it comes from, how it shapes our actions, and how it can be shed or released.
The series 'Urban Vaginas' (working title) express the varying levels of emotional openness I have felt moving through the city. They are my personas/body language/internal-external dialogue when interacting with this urban expanse. To live here is to be constantly visible to others, constantly in relationship to others. I have begun to develop a subtle communication, both an instinctual and intentional tactic, to guide encounters. Inherent in this phenomenon is my acute awareness of my gender and its impact on how people see and relate to me.
